FACULTY POSITION IN PHOTONIC MATERIALS

The Department of Physics invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2010, contingent upon final administrative approval.  The position will be in the area of Photonic Materials including optical, optoelectronic and nano-photonic materials, preferably involving experimental research.  Applicants must have a doctorate in Physics or a closely related field.  The successful candidate will become an active member of the Materials Science research cluster within the newly formed School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences.  Expectations include the establishment of an independent nationally recognized research program, effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and direction of undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students. USF offers excellent opportunities to interact with existing research programs in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, as well as the NCI-designated Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The Physics Department currently has strong research programs in materials science and experimental/theoretical condensed matter physics, biophysics, and laser physics. This full-time academic-year position is part of an expansion of our Ph.D. program in Applied Physics and of a University-wide initiative to strengthen existing research in these targeted areas.
